the bright world beyond the lids await;
though, so easy to return here,
a show waiting always, when curtains close.

Wars are fought,
arms crawl through wood shadows
turn solid and run to the center,

in this play.

The show lives with
the closing of the curtains;
the million details of dust, of objects,
fade to ethereal.

Actors cue in darkness, poised to move
for the audible world, still open;
greedy even without the cumbersome
distraction of sight.

With effort, nay, regret even,
the bright world beyond the lids await;
though, so easy to return here,
a show waiting always, when curtains close.

I read so many things into this.
Like the last stanza. I get it and in my mind I spun it to being a kid
that was collecting fireflies in a container with a pierced lid and then letting them go to do yet another show.

Not the lid you speak of but hey, great writing.
