Once, I took a leap of faith
Sure that I could fly
Certain I would touch the clouds
In the endless sky
Floating on the winds of hope
With a dreamers wings
Searching for my Shangri-La
And the joy it brings

Oh so high above the Earth
Reason cast aside
Laughing at the fools below
On the breeze I/'/d ride
Knowing, deep within my heart
I would surely find
That which I so clearly saw
In my dreamers mind

Alas...

Soon the clouds did turn to gray
Wind became a gale
Plunging downward through the air
Wings to no avail
Burning like a shooting star
Guess I should have known
Once, I took a leap of faith...

And dropped just like a stone

Very inspiring to me, so much so that this popped right out after reading yours...

Still I find I stand back up
Disgorging bits of ash
Brushing clothes I grit my teeth
Determined if not rash
I raise my head to look above
While wincing at the pain
Yet I find I`ve bended knees
Prepared to leap again.

See? See what you did? Barkeep!

I love the rhythm and the build up to the sarcasm of the last line. Splendid!
This is one of those JUST MY LUCK stories that all of us can identify with.
Once we trust, we get the stuffings kicked out of us!
Perhaps the solution is to go ahead and invest ourselves, but don/'/t tell anyone!! Hence the expression, GROUNDED. Its extremely hard to fall upward.

Oh trust, that fated wretch! We no sooner offer it up, that it twits around to stab
us right in the back. I am finding that as the years fall behind me I am less
inclined to leap period, faith-wise or not.

It/'/s a hard fall back to Earth is it not? And you have written this beautifully.

so good to read you again.
