Inspired by Arthur Schopenhauer*s "On The Suffering Of The World." Thank you to everyone that has read my work and taken the time to comment. [bodytext] => viewing the world as if through a window*s pane
a rose colored perception believed to be clear
as everything that surrounds the mind leaves an impression; a stain

the pursuit of happiness runs an internal parallel with a man*s unrelenting fear
as life*s meaning is drawn to the surface through personal sacrifice and pain
while attempting to maintain a firm grasp on the obsession over everything held most dear

with boredom*s welcome the person becomes the person*s scourge
for with that resentment the person must the person purge

as future*s worry sustains present thought
upon a mirrored glass a reflection through impatient eyes is viewed
since with a viewed present there is always a future sought

due to humanity*s affliction the release with Death often misconstrued
is not a fate apart from that which man has wrought
as pain from happiness through knowledge is increased by mans* certitude

Hi Rich.

Wow! I felt honored when I saw your poem. It pleases me if I can help generate thought, which is one of my primary goals in poems and prose, via/'/ my weekly newspaper column, Life Lines. If you ever want to check my prose, Google /'/Michael Winter + Life Lines/'/.

This poem is stunning. there are so many awesome parts and observations I don/'/t have the time to expound on the numerous wonderful turns of phrase. I like it especially so as every word is placed with thought and meaning, not just to fill the space or complete a rhyme scheme. this piece is deep in meaning and I/'/ve read it three times, but will read it at least a dozen more.

I/'/ve studied Rumi, a Sufi Dervish and poet and philosopher of love and life. I spent two years reading the first two pages until I finally grew into the knowledge of his words. Your [poem is reminiscent of those two pages. I will have to study it and really drop my thinking cap on to get the full intentions of this wonderful piece.

"due to humanity*s affliction the release with Death often misconstrued is not a fate apart from that which man has wrought
as pain from happiness through knowledge is increased by mans certitude,
and the magic that fear and loss and love has wrought."

Congrats on a real masterpiece of effort.

Mike

A sublime description of mans eternal struggle to justify reality ..AS IF THROUGH A WINDOWS PANE..against his inner vision of EVERYTHING HELD MOST DEAR...

Your poem describes life as a contradiction in terms, opening doors to the insights that spark our curiosity and set imaginations on fire ..UPON A MIRRORED GLASS.
The enchantment of your write is that you do not attempt to seduce us with your own conclusions, but honor readers by laying out a smorgasbord of thoughts, and leaving us holding a silver spoon. Stunning.

Not only was this full of epic wisdom, it clearly took a poets mind to put forth such time and effort to create such ingenious lines ( and I/'/m sure as hell gonna steal a few from you ) LOL

Very well done my friend
Oh Barkeep!!!
