She stood at the edge of the river
An angel or ghost, I couldn/'/t tell
As morning mist rose from the water
And dawn cast its magical spell
Her eyes shined as stars in the heavens
Her hair had the look of pure gold
And I was a captive in silence
As I hid in the fog and the cold

What manner of vision or madness
Has caused me to see her today?
When all that I loved has been taken
My world, in a flash, blown away
She speaks, and the river does beckon
"Come dwell in my depths evermore"
I find myself pulled by the currents
So far, oh so far from shore

Now nearer, I look at her closely
Familiar, somehow, she does seem
As if we had met in a kingdom
That lies in the land of the dream
She tells me there/'/s peace /'/cross the river
Without hesitation I dive
I/'/ll swim to the banks of contentment
And I will not be back alive

The intro and the last stanza were magic to me.
Although labeled "dark" it did not read that way to me.
It didn/'/t come off as sad although the end result was.
Great visualization here. It was as if I was watching a movie. That/'/s hard to pull off with just words....Very slick in execution...Great write!

Some of the most flowing verse I/'/ve seen on here in a long time. Hats off to you. Sir!

Toward the rivers edge
and onward down
the steep ravine
and into the valley
and out into the Sea
where at its edge
we sit
where our time
reflects the days,
upon the night
upon the sky/'/s
pale blue eyes
And just about
everything no one
could ever keep,
yet linger on
all we hold
dear
just about everything
L Carling,
the poet said...

Peace!

This poem is such a breath of fresh air! a lovely story told beautifully. It just flows, and it pulled me in right from the start, and then the ending is perfect.
