Just sitting here
Listenin` to the mornin` news
Tears flow from my eyes
The truth won`t be denied
They`re so young
But they`re all gonna die
They`ve got nothing to lose
Sipping on their booze
To the mornin` news
I`m waking up
Filling up my cup
I feel deep despair in my bones
Like a king dethroned
Thank God
I`m not one of the chosen ones
Sipping on my booze
Just sitting here
Listenin` to the mornin` news

This almost feels like a blues song to me. I can see someone half awake in an easy chair, watching the news and for a reason known only to himself becomes overwhelmed with emotion over a news story about the young soldiers at war dying or school children being massacred by some monster with a rifle.

Two submissions in a row that have demanded several reads to glean the writers intent. I/'/m in heaven! Lol

Very well done.

Barkeep!! You know the drill.

Sad! Is this about alcholism? If so, I`ve been through the whole codependency too often. Hurts.

Sad and great poem.

I understand where you are coming from with this.
Sitting watching the news wanting to change the
channel but realizing that every channel has the same
thing to say. Thanking God for another day while
watching the world around me falling apart at the
seams. Looking to Jim, Jack, and the Cap/'/n for
a pair of rose colored glasses with the hope that our
reality is only a dream. Another great piece James.

This feels like a song. But the subject is true to the way many feel watching helplessly the insanities of the nightly news. We are over informed and under empowered. All we can do is bear witness.
If there were a newsbroacast of nothing but good news -- no one would watch. We love our drama!
You have defined perfectly one of the contradictions of human nature, using a perfect example to measure your message.
Pass the cream.
