Just one more chat
That’ll get me through

How did I let this happen
The praise of one admirer infected me so
Obsession kicked in and I fell deeper
Into a trap that could permanently ensnare me

Butterflies born of ego, not affection
Racing heart sparked by adoration and attention
The heights from this pedestal thrill me
As I glance down at all the world below

Yet I back away from the edge
Lest I crash to the ground
Destruction can only come of this
Distorted illusion of paradise, love

Message read and phone locked
Reluctantly I walk away
For your own good and mine also
Aware of the lofty price that both you and I would’ve had to pay

And I swear I’ll end it

How did I let this happen

after getting *ensnared*
wish I would have done the same
when ego got sparked by attention,

You speak eloquently of being in love with love. An addiction whose promises are tempting.
