Just for a change of scenery
Yet a deeper cause compels me now
That extraordinary bird for sale on Main Street

Who clipped your beautiful wings
And stifled your morning song
Who forged this steel prison
The one you claim as your home

Such questions dance across my mind
During our weekly encounters
Grateful for the occasional chirp and curious tilt of your head
I strive to make the most of our time together

Yet I’m aware of my lack of sufficient funds
The means to set you free
Though my heart breaks and yearns for you
I acknowledge that your liberation, your destiny lies beyond me

Thus I leave you in the Owner’s care
Having a word with Him before I go
Astonished am I to find out
That long ago he unlocked the cage door
In order that you should fly freely, joyfully once again

So fly, fly you precious creature
May you soar to the highest heights
Basking in the sunlit sky
And I’ll watch you from afar
Giving God the praise with grateful and admiring eyes [comments] => 5 [counter] => 121 [topic] => 55 [informant] => Deidra_Carmichael [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => dedicatedpoems )

Sad and beautiful at the same time.
One of your best.
Sometimes things aren/'/t as they seem.
Some are content with how they live while others are frustrated which you explained here. Lovely!!!!

beautiful at ease, enough to capture
the most promised and free perfect
spectator who is kind and yet aware,
reticent, humble, transparent, and true.
the simple hope, filled one would hope
with change, and pragmatism, someone
who the writer has met and adores solely
for being fair and true, and having the ability
of person hood.
the bird that could fly away at anytime but instead cares to sit upon the windowsill to greet you while you start each new day hoping just to catch your fanciful thoughts, and then it flies beautifully away in any direction it chooses, as though it is completely free
even if it is not. You do not prey upon it, and it does not prey upon you. It is wild, preyed upon, its wildness
sitting distance, sitting beside you to let you see.

This is the best poem I have read in a long while.
Thanks Deidra - it is beautiful!
Peace!

I did feel uplifted reading this.almost like being on the wings of that bird itself as it would soar into a radiant summer sky
Beautiful and soothing write
I commend you for this.

Steve
