we break down unscripted
speak in code so cryptic
we try but fall short of glory
we keep fumbling our lines
and it hurts but it’s fine

I’ve been putting flowers on the grave
of a future I remember
‘cause it hits me like the coldest wave
and it’s not even November
I keep on, but these limbs get heavy
I’m draped in lead as black as night
honestly, I might break this levee
would you tell me that I’m alright?

‘cause I would’ve just scrapped this life
except the parts with you
I met you painted blue
you kissed me on a summer’s night
I stepped out of those shoes
and into something new

but I’ve been putting flowers on graves
of choices I made
‘cause I know not all dreams can be saved
life’s a masquerade
I’m alive, but have I been living?
my heart’s been breaking
this life’s a joke, it’s unforgiving
but you’re breathtaking

this betrayal all around us
spins me ‘til I fall down
they still just run aground
their so-called love’s superfluous
so **** them, who needs it
together we’ll leave it

I’ll still be putting flowers on graves
of goodbyes I chose
but I’ll stand up against the shockwaves
of my old shadows
because as long as I have you, love
I’ll be coming home
and that’s what love so brave is made of

This is so beautiful and wonderful! So many great lines in this gorgeous piece.

"cause I would’ve just scrapped this life
except the parts with you"

" I’ve been putting flowers on graves
of choices I made
‘cause I know not all dreams can be saved"

"we try but fall short of glory
we keep fumbling our lines
and it hurts"

WHY are there not a dozen comments here?

Bless you for the share.

Invierno

You certainly made an impact on me with this, so cleverly written with so many lines that leapt out of the page to grab my attention and pull me deeper into the read

I’ve been putting flowers on the grave
of a future I remember

Particularly memorable. I read this twice because I enjoyed it so much the first time.

Steve
