“I’m doing okay”, now tasked to a lie.
The whole world is ‘doing okay’;
we don’t even try to move beyond the answer
when eyes, speaking words no tongue can form
spill the truth, tears begging release
from the charade the world sees.
Dissatisfaction running rapids from the waterfall
of my mind.
Even I the author cannot find the means,
the shining path of emptiness.
Wrath is defeated, ashes in an urn
stuffed full of other parts of who I was,
who I am, and in time,
who I will become.

People lie because they really couldn/'/t care less on how you feel and they fear if they were actually sincere they maybe asked to help you. Like, I will pray for you. I take that seriously even though I/'/m no religious zealot. If I say it, I do it.
Nobody likes a phony so why be one yourself???/'/
It/'/s a cruel selfish world.

I see many a glorious poem here go without a comment.
Thanks for bringing up the obvious. Great writing and thoughts.

I agree with James, but when asking someone "Are
you ok?" , "How have you been?", or "How are you
doing?"...by answering that we are doing fine or ok
whether we are or not...despite the fact that we may
be lying we know that some people are asking just
to be nice and dont really care so much as to how we
are doing. Then there is the fact that we tell others
that we are doing ok or fine when we rally arent
just because we dont want to come across as
complaining. "Why complain when everyone else
has problems too and dont really want to listen?"
Me personally, I always have an open ear to
anyone that needs to talk. I only want to treat
others how I would like to be treated.
Awesome write and how so very true.

Rich

Sometimes we don/'/t know what to ask. So we speak in generalities. That we don/'/t come pounding on your door testifies less to our intent than to our respect for breaking and entering into your personal space.
HOW ARE YOU is beyond our ken.
Your poem is historically accurate, however, the accountability for opening the door rests with the responder. We can only knock. We cannot open the door.

I truly wish I could say,
But the truth is,
I am just not sure,
I never was.
I feel completely lost.
I never wanted it all,
I could not say what I want,
I will die someday
I fear
not knowing
what I could
what I should
troubled
deeply troubled
because I never
was me.

I wish I could be.
And it hurts because
I am not.
Peace!
