Neither fame or acclaim
For the past can never be reclaimed
The days of old no matter how bold
Are just stories once told
Yesterday`s golden dreams of glitter
Today is nothing more than litter
Living in the past
Maybe a blast
But it can never last

Spot on. I really enjoyed your rhyme scheme and message. Two koalas and a kangaroo for you...
Physical pain can reduce over time but emotional pain seems to linger - new research shows they overlap at key receptor sites in the body. And time is an arrow shot in one direction, at least for our current abilities to move in it, so the past is best used as a choice of path for the future, not a place to dwell.

I like the clever rhyming! What fun.
It seems the further we get from something, the better it looks. (I look better from Cleveland, for example.)
Distance blurs the details and softens all the sharp edges of reality. I only remember the good stuff. You are so right, it may be a blast but it can never last! Well spoken James!
Pass the dustpan...

The way that I look at it...Time cant heal pain like you
said. I believe that Time helps us deal with the pain.
Endurance and strength is what Time is good for
giving us. If the pain came from a being wronged by
someone sure we can forgive but we should never
forget lest we open ourselves to that same wrong
again. The past is something that we learn from in the present to help us endure the future. Plus living in the past just leads to so many missed opportunities in the present that could just lead to regrets hence more pain. |

I love the cadence and rhymes in this. I can hear it being read
aloud as I read it in my head. The subject, too is well expressed.
Time marches on to be sure - but the nostalgia of the past is
such a tempting mistress. The trick, I think, is finding a balance.
Nice write here, Jim. Love it!

as the chamber brother song says
*time has come today*
when we remember stories of old
and how we use to be
they still do shine
if for only a moment.... |
