[bodytext] => I woke up
with a strange feeling
heart beat racing
the last thing I remembered
was lying down on the bed
now my eyes are open
and I am looking all around
shadows in the room causing fear
oh whats that creepy sound
there are lumps
under the covers
when they start moving I shudder
something is close to me
I can hear it breathe
It wants to steal my body
of that there is no doubt
I try to move
but I can not
terrified I cry out....
suddenly
I can move
I can feel
I jump out of the bed
ready to run
I am finally free
thats when I felt the force
of something malevolent
as it grabbed me
it pushed me back down on the bed
and now
something I can not see
has a hold of my legs
the room begins to spin
whats happening is so unreal
hope its a dream
want it to end wanna be out
once again
I can not move
or breathe
terrified I cry out....

I actually felt the fear, you are so awfully accurate in your description.
Well done sir/ma/'/am, this is one of my favourites,

This sounds a lot like sleep paralysis. You captured the anxiety of the experience well. It certainly feels malevolent. |

How DARE you leave us in such peril? GAD ZOOKS, what a nightmare, and awake no less!
I was holding my breath. Reactivating the terror is a clever gambit, in whose unexpected turn lies the power of your poem.
If you wrote a novel, I would be afraid to open the book!
Well done!

if you are fearful of falling asleep that is
a horrible problem.
People with physical illness can equate with the
lack of sleep due to so much pain, the problem is you can never get comfortable enough to let your mind succumb to sleep.
If falling asleep is troubling people with obsessive compulsive disorders typically have rituals, things that allow them to stop long enough to be free enough to fall asleep,
but this plays horrible tricks on sleeping, and they lose
sleep, or finally sleep very late at night, and they tire
easily during the day.
Something else is going on when you fear sleep.
We have all had episodes where we feel physically something is wrong during our sleep, we might wake up in a heavy sweat and check ourselves.
PTSD, or post traumatic stress disorder is something
that could cause such a horrible thing to happen.
There are a lot of causes behind PTSD, there is no perfect universally accepted way to treat it, but universally the first thing one has to do is get
diagnosed.
You should, if you have fear of falling asleep for any reason, you should seek help.
I mean that man. You should do it.
Hope I am misreading your poem.
But if I am not, please check it out.
I respect you somehow Unknown_Utopia
Peace! |

I/'/m with Odessa and Muppet. Been there and you penned it brilliantly. Not fun but as mentioned very accurately. Another jewel of writing from uu. |

I agree about the cliff-hanger. Its good that
something are able to remain as thoughts and dreams
or nightmares. The way that you ended gives the
feeling that there could possible be a second part.
I would like to see the next chapter to this tale.
I agree with everyone else here that you captured
the essence of anxiety, fear and terror brilliantly.

I love this!! the title piqued my interest and the poem did not disappoint! it/'/s not often I get to read something that/'/s essentially a horror movie put into words. I totally dig it. |
