in there heads they thought,
The midnight rider went riding
his life he had not bought .
the night was still; the road was cold,
his friends they all were gone.
The midnight rider was at the wheel
his face got cold,
his hands got wet,
the night was suddenely still.
at the funeral she went to his coffin
and put her hand on his chain,
one last tear for the midnight rider
one more tear for the endless pain.
so if you know a midnight rider
go and hug them and don't let go,
for you don't want a new midnight rider
especially someone you know.
