This maudlin sentimental memory Is praised so much, but oh!, I cannot see The good derived from mawkish memory,- Recall and recollection while at tea. Do aught! -Your loved-one’s need to fit, Be not contented lolling in a chair, Indulging memories that strain your wit, And wiping sentimentally a tear. Rehashing,- turning over mentally Facts of a life, not even understood, And call some empty small talk “Memory” Is pointless and a case inane and moot. Do ought! for your beloved departed man! Go! move! - attempt to do much more! For people have a short attention span, And new events befog what was before. :Lo! take to heart - none ever profited From armchair hugging whimpering “Memory!” Do aught from which your love can benefit, Enliven memory with energy! Mere memory only will not launch him far, Its syrupy, and sticky without deed, Will glue your love upon a slab of tar, But lend no wings to soar that he will need.. Make bright to shine instead his legacy, Give him your ardent prayer’s daily bread; It outweighs, dwarfs this idle memory; For lo! he lives, - in God there are no dead.!
