I climb the stairs to be alone
Safe from harm, here in my home
Did I deserve the things they said?
I climb the stairs to get to bed

I climb the stairs to think things through
I really thought my friends were true
Perhaps they fooled me all along
Now I know I must be strong

I climb these stairs, I wear a frown
Weight of betrayal brings me down
And as I almost reach the top
I hear a key inside the lock

And as the door swings open wide
I see my lover step inside
He smiles at me and all is well
I race to him, my woe to tell

We climb the stairs, my heart is light
I won't be alone tonight
Here he is my own best friend

I climb these stairs with heavy heart
I am in shreds, just torn apart
