We’ve seen a lot of changes
Come to this small town
We’ve seen buildings go up
And we’ve seen them coming down

New faces line the streets
New merchants open stores
Everyone’s competing
To get you in their door

Signs read of specials
Great prices on dinner for two
But everyone’s in a hurry
Just to get you through

Seems time is of the essence
No one knows how to slow down
Everything’s –a- changing
In this small town

Be it better or for worse
The pace of life is on a roll
I just hope that in the end
We don’t pay too big of a toll

This Small Town

We’ve seen a lot of changes
Come to this small town
We’ve seen buildings go up
And we’ve seen them coming down

New faces line the streets
New merchants open stores
Everyone’s competing
To get you in their door

Signs read of specials
Great prices on dinner for two

Just to get you through

Hmmm. This happened in my home town as well, Jeff, but not so dramatically, given its isolation. A pertinent comment on the social capital of change and so called "progress".

Sounds very much like the things I've seen going on in my own town, and the things that go on in every small (and even large) town near and far. It's all described and simplified in this poem... it makes the change and progress seem a little less ominous. Thank you.
