Sign on the door says closed
Oh, how I would love to enter
Meander among the merchandise and warm cloths

I wouldn't steal anything
Just want a warm cozy place to sleep
Gee, that mannequin is staring at me
I'll bet she wouldn't exchange places, it's so frigid

The frosty winds swirl around already frozen feet
The look transforms from gazing to empty staring
Desperately clinging to the glass,
But surrendering to his final chance

Then a tear descended from the mannequin's eye
As she witnessed the homeless man die
One final breath he took
Along with one prolonged look

All the beauty behind the window
So close yet totally out of reach
With that he expired and slid to the ground
Lay there dead until the next morning found

Did he die in vain
Staring through that window pane
Was his life a total loss
Upon his back he too, carried the cross [comments] => 4 [counter] => 146 [topic] => 21 [informant] => Willofree [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 13 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

Very good poem on a sometimes touchy subject. We waste so much everyday, when just giving a little could make a life-altering change...Nice write. Scorp.

Lots of contrast here. A potent metaphor again. Nice work! J.
