I've done my fair share of crying.
To think we started so long ago,
Through the ups and the downs.
Sometimes known as friends,
Other times not sure what we were.
You've always been in my heart,
Never really let you go.
I close my eyes and I can see your smile,
Yet with the good comes the bad.
I can hear your accusations,
Your disappointment and excuses.
I've lost count of how many times you broke me,
Only to mend my heart again.
You saw my tears when you explained,
You said you loved my friend.
I chose to stay away from you,
Knowing I'd end up hurt again.
Then she passed and you moved on,
But you moved back to me.
What was once so exciting and new,
Was getting old for me.
But just when I thought we were getting along,
A chance to be what we once were.
You decided to break me heart again,
Make sure it couldn't be fixed again.
You couldn't tell me simply,
You had to come and see me,
Make me adore you more,
Then break it to me later.
I can see you now,
Walking through my door.
You leant down and kissed my lips.
You looked so happy and so excited,
My heart gave a leap of joy.
Little did I realise your smile wasn't for me,
That my delusional world was crumbling.
The last chapter of our novel had been written,
The book was closing shut on our lives.
And when you told me later on,
I realised why I sensed something different.
The way you held me tight,
Your lips a sweet caress,
You tasted like goodbye.

well this poem hit home for me in so many ways i had a man in my life that did the same thing my kids dad this poem made me cry for you wrote a book about my life. I felt everyword and every line was the story of my past.this poem was perfect wish when that happened to me i could put it into words maybe then i would have grasped reality sooner thanks for posting this touching poem, aprilrose
