and Justice 3310 [bodytext] => What gift could I give
to my children now grown?
No longer babies but
living lives of their own.
My precious baby boy
with a heart eternally young.
Could I reach him through
lyrics musically sung,
or with thoughts written
in a melodic rhyme.
What could I give to
this sweet son of mine.
My angelic daughter who
blessed me with a grandchild.
Tough on the surface
but inside so mild.
She has come very far
in just a short while,
blossoming into a woman
with her own personal style.
Both are so very
precious to me.
Without them I can't imagine
how my life would be.
Bittersweet memories
of Christmases now past,
they grew up just
a little too fast.
I was not quite ready
to let them both go.
It was hard not to
let the grief show.
I sigh as I remember
how things use to be,
when they woke Christmas morning
to gifts beneath the tree.
I will wake this Chirstmas morning
without them there,
knowing it is time that
I learned to share.
Share my sweet children
with loves of their own,
as they build lives together
in surroundings they call home.
With precious partners they chose
as future husband and wife.
It was time to let go
and let them have their own life.
It will be different this year
as all things must change.
Future daughter-inlaw, son-inlaw,
and grandchilds gifts to attain.
My family has grown
but there is room in my heart.
My love for my children
will never depart.
I blink back the tears
that well up inside.
My empty nest built
on the tears I have cried.
What can I give my children now grown,
as this Chirstimas is different
than any I have known....
I give them courage
to strive on ahead.
Covering them in prayer each night
as they retire to bed.
I give them hope in doing
what they feel is best,
in facing lifes trials
having been put to test.
I give them strength in the fact
they have what it takes,
to overcome obstacles
and learn from their mistakes.
But the one gift I give
that been there from the start,
is they remain forever
within the walls of my heart.
Unconditional love for a lifetime
is what I have to give,
to unwrap daily
all the days that they live.

what a beautiful, timely poem. i was just the tooth fairy tonight for the first time. (seems like she was just getting them yesterday).how fortunate that your children are healthy and happy with such a lyrical mother. you must be as much as a gift to them as they are to you. merry christmas. colette
