Your smiling face, in a half forgotten memory haunts me
and words come by slow degrees, and not so effortlessly
as in the firey valcano of a love known in youth
which is always a thing of such beauty and truth

Your verses echo in my mind, like some imortal storm
with such force of truth that I hear now in their form
the truths you knew but I was yet to young to know
though by a year I am older as the calendar goes

You knew there was no place for me within your clique
and that you could not escape, your manner mild and meek
No matter that I stood ready to stand against the tide
I was but one, and there were so many on the other side

You knew it would be my end, and as a true friend
would set me free -- against my will before the end
but your verses would speak of a longing regret-
and in your rhymes would leave to my heart a single debt

Promising to remember me as the truest of friends
wishing love and happieness that never ends
This a like vow would require, and such loyalty to inspire
that still to this very day I recall, every syllable in all
of the parting verse you gave, echoing always in my mind
though your wished happieness and love I have come to find
wishing only the same to you as your words echo in heart and mind.

It is so nice to read of something which does not wreak of vengeance nor darkness and despair. I have been married twice but have not hatred or any such thing towards either of my wives.............................doglas
