And men will grin approvingly,
‘So beautiful . . . but still, too thin.’
I do my best for him.
But there’s another girl I know
Whose clothes may hold some persons three,
With rolls of dimpled fat on show,
Cup size in double D.

Who is this girl of grotesque mass?
I spy her form through panes of glass;
Her shadow sometimes follows me
To chase me nervously.
I glimpse of her in waters pearl yet
Others see her not a trace;

O Mirror, speak, who is this girl
Who stares me in the face? [comments] => 7 [counter] => 179 [topic] => 61 [informant] => wray [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 10 [ratings] => 2 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => selfstruggles )

Great poem, excellent twist. I can relate...after so many years of being overweight I finally managed to slim down and sometimes I look in the mirror and still see the fat. But when I first lost the weight I struggled with myself and my appearence so much. Finally I'm comfortable with how I look.

This is strangely unlike a lot of your other poems... i dunno... some of your rhyme seems kind of forced, and i'm not sure what "in waters pearl" means, but that could be a cultural difference... the message of this poem is powerful though... meaningful, i'm sure, to plenty of people on this site and in our world... i should show this to some friends... thank you for this... This is a great poem. I am not sure what to tell you to encourage you. All we can do is strive to change ourselves in the ways we need to and for no one else. Great write

Just excellent (dare I say phat?) - the twist pulled me in too, and so spot on. A socialised, internalised malady for girls and woman and increasingly, blokes (except its all about mass and rock hard abba dabbas).
Well written, cleverly and subtly expressed, like a whisper across the ether.
