And you know it
But you can’t help but laugh
When my sanity is pacing the floor
And i find myself at your door
Again
You just laugh
“what took you so long”
you say
with a little smile and a little wave
because you know I’ll stay until I can’t take you anymore
and then I’ll go
just to return again
and I dream about you when I close my eyes
I bet you know that too
my subconscious has this funny way
Of dwelling on you
And every thing is so muddled
But you take me up in the strongest embrace
And I can’t help but laugh and send my girlish cry of mercy into the air
Life is so fun to you
But little did I know
How addicted to your laughter I would become
I say I’m leaving but I just can’t go
And I say I’m gone but I know you know
That I will forget some small item
Just to retrieve it from you
An earring
A bracelet
Whatever it is that can give me the excuse
To see your smirk when you open your door
And say
“what took you so long”
I won’t give in to insanity
But that’s only what I say
Because another kiss and I realize that I’ve lost it
Because I’m kissing you back and
Leaving my ring
Or my book
Some small trinket to bring me back
Just to watch you open that door
You never tire of my obsession
You just laugh
And chuckle out that phrase
“what took you so long”
and I fall in love all over again

i thoroughly loved your poem. it hit my relationship with a guy in a different state that i just can't describe. i want to be over him, but i'm so trapped in everything about him. do you mind if i print this poem out and show it to him so that he can understand how i feel?
many thanks! -Mikeyd

That obsession---the perfect entanglement of agony and ecstasy---you have described it without leaving out a nuance.
