so I may soar above all worldly cares,
a world that hurts too much.”
So You gave me some feathers, a needle and thread,
and bade me find the sky.

I stitched the white wings fair
and sought the sky You gave to me;
the world grew small;
for a time it seemed my soul rose free,
dreaming on the air . . .

But only practice wings;
I shift now in restless sleep, and miss
the peace You woke in me.
This world, though Yours, can never know bliss
as sweet as Your love brings.

You left but a pin
and a feather and string to remind me how
the pain may brief be stilled.
But the skies You still hold out of reach
like the template I need;
I can’t stitch alone.

Grant me Your Heavens, Lord
—please—
Grace to me, Lord,
Your Wings. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 255 [topic] => 11 [informant] => wray [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => ChristianPoetry )

This has a really strange tone... Maybe i'm just not used to hearing "grace" used as a verb, but in the religious context, it really works. This poem also sounds almost like a sestina, even though it's nothing like one, and giving it that restrained sound fits well with the idea of religion. Finally, thanks for the plug... You make me blush sometimes, miss "banger with a thick australian accent, but minus the B", let's see what you have next... Butterat Zool.

Beautiful poem,but you don't want to leave this wonderful world.
In time he will tuck you under his wings
