[bodytext] => laying nubile in the ignorant presence
of men who have no clue
impatience the deadliest of her curses
rapture no lasting virtue

on the one hand the brass ring can shine
all the others only a ride
no more tokens in that empty pocket
the forest is on the left to go hide

where the zebras stripes are now fading
and the lions roar is hoarse
the pathway is sharp and choppy
you're back where you've started of course

the trophy is resting on your illuminated shelf
encased beyond some moot point
it's all wasted effort in someones end
validation from the wrong side of a joint

the battle cry is never heard
but for too late along the run
looking they'll not find her there
careful now her kill is set to stun

the sand no hotter than her soul
an ocean no deeper than her pain
the sky may leave her quite unwhole
yet the forest keeps her mildly sane

no one ever sits with her past stay
she reaps the harvest all alone
counting notch marks off to the right
looking above she waits to be stoned

she's fodder for their chattering minds
packaged candy for their id
mocking their attempts with caustic tears
she's waiting for their final bid

she'd rather go back to the carousel
or to be the dancing girl in the box
alone she never seems to find her way
waking up in a past life's stocks

she's a sure bet, a one of a kind
they swear its' lined with gold
they'd all kill for just a glimpse of her
yet once bought they lose their hold

she's gained her strength and grown her wings
quite the sight if one could partake
the halo's cracked and the seams are worn
but her energy you'll never shake

for inside her locked away is her innocence
once stolen from her so long ago
snippets of the little one may show from time to time
but no one's ever gotten deep enough to know

now if the siren lets you inside of her
entrusts in you the secrets deep within the forest floor
if you can walk unscathed upon her barb wired heart
she might tally to the end of the score

but since she protects them, the faerie and the little girl
and all whom attempt sadly fail
you may have half the chance that yesterday did
to find her traipsing aside the misty trail [comments] => 3 [counter] => 186 [topic] => 48 [informant] => jaeann [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )
