Or a child in a painting.
Her shoes slipped in the mud
As her husband helped her into my Hackney.
I saw her flinch as he touched her elbow.
Her dark curls, flattened by the rain,
Stood out against the big white collar
Of her blue dress.
Passing crumbling stone walls,
Grazing sheep, and boys in flat caps,
I drove towards the old white farmhouse.
Her quiet breathing was a backdrop to
The hum of the engine. I listened,
Wondering upon her thoughts.
We reached our destination.
I helped with the suitcases.
She stepped inside,
The hem of her dress riding up.
Her husband paid me, briskly, and
Slammed the farmhouse door.
I should have left then.
Instead, I stood there, in the rain,
Loking up into the unlit bedroom window,
Hoping she might look back. [comments] => 3 [counter] => 197 [topic] => 2 [informant] => AstraLee [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )

A very beautiful poem, found it really mezmerising and easy to read, the images painted were breath taking, this poem I really liked, though I do have one question and please forgive my ignorance but what is a Hackney?
Cool write Id rate 10 out of 10 but can only go to 5 I hope that will do.

Wistful cabbies?

This is a full, demonstrative write. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing, AstraLee.
