You came to me about two years ago
Taught me things I never thought I know
About life, about love, and hopes and dreams
How things aren’t always as they seem
You’re so wise, so smart, for just a little man
As you fitted in the palm of my hand
For hours I’d stare at your beautiful face
As my mind took me to a different place
Why I’d waited for such a precious gift?
To my heart your were such a big lift
All my life I’d waited for something like you
To give me the reason to see life through
As you lay in my arms and I rocked you to sleep
We’re building memories that I’ll always keep
Close to my heart, locked tight in my mind
As for a minute we’re in our own space and time
Son, I could never put into words what you mean to me
How you opened my eyes too more clearly see
The joys of life, the honor of parenthood
In ways that only a precious child could
I fear the day when I’ll have to let you go
When your own oats you’ll be ready to sow
I hope I would have taught you what’s important in life
Before your own child is conceived by you and your wife
