Spring is sprung, the season teases,
With an early assortment of coughs and sneezes
Yes, Spring is here in all its glory,
But allergists tell a different story.

Pollens, grasses, and blossoming flowers,
Decorating once bare bowers
Poets write of love and rebirth,
But how many ailments is Spring worth?

Puffy eyes, skin red and blotchy,
Housebound, hiding your lovely acne
Itchy nose and wheezy breath,
Bring on Summer or give me death!

Restless nights, upset tummies,
Immune systems twitchy as junkies
Allergens inhaled, touched or ingested,
Leave its victims tired and bested.

Spring for some is a romantic high,
But allergy sufferers only sigh
Where’s the chance to preen and flirt,
When your nose is dripping down your shirt?

And you don’t attract a lovely dish,
When you’re mouth-breathing like a landed fish
For only the most ardent have ever clocked,
Lingering kisses when their nose is blocked.

Sun, love, the sweet perfume of jasmine,
But what words for me sum up the season?
Anaphylaxis, sinusitis,
Atopic eczema and allergic rhinitis
….and urticaria and conjunctivitis
(a couple extra just to spite us).

Inhalers, sprays, shots and pills,
Are meant to minimise your ills
Side effects, gross or brief,
Are the price we pay for such relief.

A parting comment as I bid adieu,
Spring was never meant for one as sensitive as you.
Ah, Spring

My eyes are teary for another reason.
Laughter! This was brilliant. I have no
allergies to speak of, so I cannot relate to your suffering. But I feel for ya, man.
GREAT poem!!
