Because all those who came before me, said they would not
Walk a path they could call their own
Walk a path that begins at home
Oh, how I wish I could just go home
Oh, how I wish I could just pick up a phone
To call someone to stand by my side
Call someone who won’t run and hide
But there’s no one there
And it’s eating me alive
Why must I be the one called, “First”
Why must I be the one dying of thirst
I thirst for a sip of compassion and understanding
But I guess this is what comes with what I was demanding
Demanding a chance for me to be me
Demanding a chance for them to see
That you are you, and I am I
And there should be no reason for you to ask why
I don’t see things the way that you do
And that’s O.K, because that’s what makes you…you
I hope that day comes sooner rather than later
For the weight on my shoulders, is getting greater and greater
But I must press on so that they will see
Why I walk the path that lays before me

Sometimes, the price we pay for being us is really hard. I just wrote a poem: Have You Seen Compassion? It seems to be in short supply today...great poem.

I can relate to this poem. " Demanding a chance for me to be me....." , that can be such a great cost........because I've had to pay for that in my own life. Anywayz.......deep and thoughtful write....thanx for sharing.
