Of all the spells and charms I’ve cast,
Potions bubbling through till morn
Nothing has brought a warm caress,
To hold me less forlorn

I’ve spent many hours burning tapers,
Naked as a pagan sprite
Reciting chants by full moon’s glow,
“I wish I may I wish I might, find the love I crave tonight”

- but not enough to end my plight.

So many years in long desire,
Bereft of love to quench my thirst
The recipes I have tried, philtres of every type,
Love pentacles drawn in sand
Salomonis Clavicula by my hand,
Concocting aphrodisiacs of every sort
With myrrh and ginseng and St John’s Wort,
With ambergris, and mandrake too

-But never enough to summon you.

I’ve brewed my teas by waxing moon,
Hung orange and tobacco from my doors
Said my prayers in Christian church,
And shed my blood on pagan floors
Yelled incantations till my throat was sore,
GODDESS OF LOVE, HEAR MY PLEA!

- but no-one was ever drawn to me.

I long to put aside my spells,
And hang my cauldron out to dry
To pack up my herbs, and toss away my Spanish fly,
To wash the ideograms from under my bed
And spend my nights in secret tryst,
Till dawn shines on lovers’ sleep
Enveloped in the morning mist

I cry out now without such tricks,
Of summoning spells to draw you near
Or drinks and vapours to ensnare,
And bare my longing to the world
Wherever you are,
I beseech of thee,

Come to me, Come to me [comments] => 11 [counter] => 245 [topic] => 2 [informant] => spike [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 60 [ratings] => 12 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => LovePoetry )

I feel so strange...as if I were compelled to read this by a force unseen. hmmm At any rate I loved the way you wrote this.

Wow Spike! Incredibly well done! I can't say enough about this.... perfectly done in terms of structure, flow, rhyme... and fabulously creative.

I'm heading straight for the Best Poem of the Day forum. You've outdone yourself (which, seemed nearly impossible to do per your other writes)!

Spellbound,
SNM

Interesting rhythm. I'm not sure if it flows properly enough for my liking, but your mention of
"Salomonis Clavicula by my hand,"

More than makes up for any disinterest factor. Thanks to SNM for pointing this one out -

Entertaining in a slightly magickal fashion.
Well done.

Captivating. A fabulous write that does most definately belong in the poem of the day position. I'm hooked ... will be investigating more Spike writes.

I am enchanted .. and captivated. This is spectacular, S.
I have not even the words to describe how wonderfully well
you put the words, lines and stanzas together. I love
the one line stanzas especially. The sentiments they
conveyed are the very sort that makes damsels swoon.
(and win hearts .. so I guess your magic is bang on!)

Exceptional!! Bloody brilliant this was ~
