When she gave him life
Now he’s taken hers
And ended his strife

I gazed round the room and realized this was not my home
It never really had been. It was a house of terror, of pain
And as with the woman strapped and nailed to the floor
Its time was drawing near. It would soon cease to exist

The cross now rested on bone, and the wrists were raw and bleeding
She had stopped thrashing about and was now simply whimpering
Her head rolled side to side through moments of lucidity
I wondered if she too saw the ghosts of the past as they watched
Morbidly fascinated with my actions

I could hear the muted cries of the boy locked in the cellar
Mother would send him there when he was inconvenient to have near
I saw the larger boy huddled in the corner, on his knees
Wrists tied behind him to ankles, strips of flesh opened across his back
Where Mother would lash with barbed leather

Mother blamed the child for all that was wrong in her life
Were it not for that wicked child, his father might not have strayed
And stayed away. He would be here providing for her
Rather than Rose groveling and trying to provide for herself
Or perhaps she would have suitors that would remain instead of
Paying for her services and leaving when they discovered a child

She would send him to the cellar when she left at night
He could hear the voices when she would return hours later
Once, he thought she was being hurt and tried desperately to come to her aid
Her company left hurriedly and she had been furious.
She had kept him down there for days with only rats for companions

A few hours after each visit she would take up her cross and cry out to God
Wanting to know why he always left her alone, when someone would stay
The boy only asked once what she did while she hid him away
She had bound, gagged, and secured him in an armoire in her bedroom
She had three “suitors” visit that night and was certain to look his way often
The next day she prayed for hours, then left the scars upon his back

“This is all your fault” she would insist with each strike of leather
“This would not be my life, had you not been born unto me”
The boy would beg her to stop apologizing for his own creation
But his words were ignored and only seemed to infuriate further
So he would withdraw into his mind and dream of freedom and retribution

Her whispers brought me back as the ghosts dissipated. I leaned closer
I was still waiting for the words. I began to fear I might not hear them
Our time, as indicated by my candle, was growing short
As I tilted the candle, droplets of wax fell upon her carved forehead
She returned from whatever dementia had been holding her, eyes clear again
She asked me “Why?”

The last vestiges of sanity escaped from within my shattered mind
I screamed out the question again in response and hammered the floor
The flesh of my fists collecting splinters that burned
“Look at what I have become, woman!” I threw at her
“Flesh of your flesh, blood of your blood, I am you!”
“The circle has come complete as you lay bound at my feet!”
“You created, then destroyed me!”
“I have done only as I have been taught!”

The full ramification my words could be seen, as awareness set in
She tried to call out to her God as I slapped her
I bared my teeth for her to see and let her gaze into the darkness of my eyes
“Full circle, Mother” I spat at her, “I have birthed you!”
“I have made you that which you now are!”
“I have doubts your God will hear any more of your prayers!”
She tried to apologize as I stood and moved away
Her apology meant nothing. I had heard it before countless times

It was an hour before dawn when she started to cry out again
I sat back down beside her, anxious
“Please” she muttered, “Please”
I wanted to know “Please what?”
She begged for me to make it stop, she begged me to finish
When she said “Please don’t hurt me anymore…”
I dropped my candle over they cavity bored into her chest
And watched as her tattered clothing doused with oil took flame

I found shelter in a nearby barn that was little used
Going back the next night to review my handiwork
Superstitious locals would go nowhere near the terrifying site
For within the center of the charred remains, a skeletal figure lay
Complete, intact, face up, arms and legs splayed wide
Most knew her calling, what she was, or had been
But they could not explain the gold cross, melted into the sternum
Nor the image of a rose
My Blood Flower
Etched into her skull

It was like something out of dungeons and dragons. The wording is so descriptive and powerful. The imagery allows you to form these graphic pictures in your mind.

Potent write

Sighs... Your morbid words have captivated me once more, dearest hunter... I hope this is not the end of your gorgeously disturbing trilogy... Let the darkness spread for all eternity! And may the rose and the newly created child of the Night live on. I am not trying to force you into writing another piece of dark perfection, do not misunderstand my notions... I only wish to see the two lovers exist together for always! (Sniffles!) God, I'm such a wuss for romance... lolz... Sweetest poet, glorious light that flows through me, a smile plays at my lips, my barriers destroyed once more... Steal my black heart for the taking. I offer you my very soul! I am eternally yours, dearest Naz! Wow, I got a little bit TOO into character, hehe... Thank you for this magnifecent write, as are all of your works, precious hunter... Happieness engulfs me in Her tight embrace, as my eyes linger across this pleasurable piece for the third time... Excellent flow, beautiful words, and VERY dark! I love it! Gracious one, I thank you once more!! And the prose I am writing is coming along diligently! All I ask is patience from your brilliant heart! I shall post it when I am finished with it... All my love and blessings to you, cheri amour! Standing ovation!!! Forever yours,

your precious Fleur (Stephy)
