That is when your insides weep,
Your mind will not take a rest,
Whole body being constantly put to the test.

Thoughts are ticking over at high speed,
So fast feels like my soul is set to bleed,
Eyes so heavy like weights of lead,
As I toss & turn hour after hour in my bed.

I wish my troubled brain had an on/off button,
But for punishment I am obviously glutton,
Need to shut mind down, but don’t know how?
Please mind let me sleep, take a bow.

It’s as if mind is trying to chase its tail,
In the process leaving me feeling frail,
I just can’t face the world the next day,
Just want to hide myself away.

Oh how I wish for one night of peace,
For all my worries to just completely cease,
But my voice seems never to be heard,
No-one listens to the desperation of my words.

Hang in there, little one. You are going to get through all of this. Just keep writing it out and doing what you need to know. You can reprogram your brain, you know. For every negative thought, think a happy one. Keep doing that all the time. You will find yourself in time thinking more positively than negatively. It really can work. I promise you.

Love,
Rita

I feel like you do alot, my brain seems fried, and yet shutting it down seems impossible.
Now before I go to sleep, I think of only happy things, or of things that I want to dream about, it works, about 90%of the time, cant help the last 10% I guess nightmares in my head be shut away all the time.
Beautifully written and it portrays what alot of us go through yet you have put it into words all can understand, you have such an amazing way diplicting how you want each word to come across as, leaving a detailed image behind.
Awesome talent you have, keep them coming.

Take care always

I felt the poem was an excellant representation of your insomnia. I have had problems with sleep in the past. I agree with others about thinking pleasant thoughts. Bed time is not a good time for problem solving. Also, it doesn't work very well to attempt sleep so you can shut you mind off; but shut your mind off and then sleep. Don't make sleep too important, tell yourself just getting rest is enough

I hope things get better... Willofree

I concur with Rita also. Very wise words.
I've been through this, though I know it
is of little consequence to say. Be strong.
You have a lot of people who care.
((((((hugs))))))

An on/off button for my mind would be ever so grand as well. It is definitely not nice when even sleep seems to torment us. Good poem.
