Array ( [sid] => 59090 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Birthday Wishes [time] => 2004-08-06 01:10:45 [hometext] => For her birthday, my sister asked for things such as rainbows, sunsets, breezes, cold pools. Obviously, I couldn't provide. Rather, I took a shot at a poem--even if it's a bit over simplistic. [bodytext] => Pause one moment,
Close your eyes.
See visions dance
Of colored skies.

Let the breeze
Play in your hair.
Go with the wind;
Fly, if you dare.

Surest rainbows,
From savage storms--
Watch forbidding
Skies transform.

Frigid pools chase
Summer's heat.
Indulge yourself,
The sun's defeat.

Sovereign smiles,
Unchained laughter.
Dreams revealed,
In faith, thereafter.

Time, you'll find,
Is friend, not foe;
With last goodbyes,
A first hello.

Warmth abounds,
The way's revealed--
Heart's compassion,
No more concealed.

"A balanced life,
Strength to stay strong."
May a sister's love
Help you along.

Well, it seems to me you gave her all her wishes and these will even last longer than the real things. What a beautiful gift.

Stunningly relevant verse, which ties in (if sometimes esoterically) to every one of your sister's wishes. The best stanza? I would say it is this:

Frigid pools chase
Summer's heat.
Indulge yourself,
The sun's defeat.

Perhaps I am biased, though, as defeating the sun's heat is a grand pursuit in New Mexico! Even better is the line pertaining to "sovereign smiles," as this harkens to an undauntable independence that I'm sure your sister will appreciate. Aside from any particular line or stanza, though, "Birthday Wishes" derives its power from a universal and overarching theme: we each have it in us to bend the world to our will, and to make our lives our own. Any sibling would be fortunate to possess a relation such as you. A Happy Birthday for your dear sister, to be sure! In Celebration of Your Talent, -KAC-
