WASHINGTON — A cavalcade of rock stars, led by superstar Bruce Springsteen, will perform concerts in key battleground states in October in an unprecedented effort to remove President Bush from office, organizers announced Wednesday.
While entertainers have long been a staple of presidential politics, especially for fund-raising, the 'Vote for Change' concert tour marks the first time such activities have been pinpointed to states that could swing either Democrat or Republican in the November contest between Bush and Democratic nominee John Kerry.
And it marks the first time Springsteen, whose music is well known for themes of working class populism, has agreed to participate in partisan politics, having spent most of his career studiously avoiding siding with either political party.
Springsteen, the primary force in organizing the anti-Bush concerts, explained his decision in a statement posted on his Web site.
'I feel like I couldn't have written the music I've written, and been on stage singing about the things that I've sung about for the last twenty five years and not take part in this particular election,' he said in the statement.

In addition to Springsteen, the concerts will involve the Dave Matthews Band, James Taylor, the Dixie Chicks, John Fogerty, Pearl Jam, R.E.M, John Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, Keb' Mo, Babyface, Jurassic 5, Death Cab for Cutie and Bright Eyes.

There comes a time to stand up
To say enough is enough
Whether right , left or center
There’s a time to call a bluff

Whether you stood by him on Iraq
Or saw from the start just a lying attack
No one can doubt he has hurt your land
And we must all now take a stand

The fool in the White House
Has brought your country low
Another four years
Would deal the final blow

The dirt of the Bushman
Has been spread all around
The world despises
His hateful sound

America’s rep lies a mess at his feet
Isolated, alone, a true war cheat
Lies and torture, hate and death
It’s time to shout with all your breath

Vote for Change!
Come one and come all
A vote for Kerry
To let us stand tall!

Yeah, I've heard about the concerts, Steel. I've also got both volumes of the punk album Rock Against Bush, both of which have a DVD inside with information from movies and skits from actforvictory.org and moveon.org.

You mentioned that you don't get to see the polls much. There are a few websites that show how Kerry is doing against Bush. One if race2004.net. Anyway, ttyl.

I will be doing so. Just hope there are enough of us out. Springsteen isn't the only one the "Bushman" as you call him has brought out of the closet.
