Yeah right, like that's ever gonna happen.

"I prefer to call you Johnathan for now, if that's ok with you."

He really thinks he's a grand replacement, which is the biggest load of s*** I've ever heard. My father didn't drink or smoke like he does, and I would rather be six feet under and a million miles up than treat that guy like family.

"What do you have against him?" she asked.

I shoulda seen that one coming.

"Think real hard, mom. After all, he's only pretending to be someone he isn't and never will be. It's what every woman wants in a man, and a surefire way to get her kids to like him."

Sarcasm always gets to her. I don't just tell her what he's doing wrong, I tell her what's wrong with her for liking him.

"He's a part of our family now, whether you like it or not."

She has the wrong idea of what family is. Family is not something you become a part of by marrying someone just to take advantage of their money. It's something called love. Family is something that can not be broken by divorce, or even death. You can't replace a family, so please....stop trying.

yes, I have been through some of this myself - and I understand how difficult this is. Nice job, and no, this shouldn't be a journal entry - it was well done, written with thoughtfulness.

Actually im glad you posted this so I can tell you....your right. Family can't be broken. And it's hard to accept someone who's "new" into your family. Especially if he's the exact opposite of someone who you loved and respected your whole life. I hope you can get through this. take care Jen.

Yeah right...I know, I've been in both worlds, a step parents only hope is to be a friend....we only have one Dad and one Mom, however fate deals the deck.
