Array ( [sid] => 58121 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => DUST IF YOU MUST [time] => 2004-07-29 22:31:11 [hometext] => Before I retired, I was a Cleaning Nut, I used to dust everything upside down, sideways, underneath, on top, and all around. Then I retired, and now much dust can be found! But when you die, you just make more dust, so have fun while you can! [bodytext] => "DUST IF YOU MUST!"

A house becomes a home when you can
write "I love you" on the furniture. When it came to cleaning I was more than eager!
I can't tell you how many countless hours
that I have spent CLEANING!
My feet ached, my knees gave out, and my back was breaking!!!
I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect!
Just incase someone came over.....No neglect, I wished for their respect!
Then I realized one day that no one came over; they were all out living life and having fun!
Theater, movies, dances, lots of book reading....their minds to broaden!!.
So one day while I was dusting away, cleaning, cleaning, breaking my back--
I heard something drop to the floor with a big "Clack!"
When I reached down to pick it up.........I said to myself, "How long has it been Connie Sue?
How many years have passed since you used to pursue?
Writing thoughts from your heart and soul?
Sit down right now and tell about your life experiences, and how they took their toll!"

At that very moment in my life
I grabbed my scratch pad and my best friend, my pen.
I now write poetry until it comes out of my ears.
Some days I don't even dress, I'm like the newsmen.....when they get inspired, it just flows
out of me, my happy times, my sad times, and yes--my fears!

Now when people visit, I find no need to explain the "condition" of my house.
I'm so happy pouring my heart out each day, I could care less.......
I guess you could honestly say, I'm a "No Dusting Dirty Louse!" *smiles*
If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed my advice......LIfe is just too short
to be so precise, so clean, dusting everything twice!

Dust if you must, but paint a beautiful sunset too!

Your neighbor is not feeling well?
Then bake him an apple pie with a wonderful
flaky crust, he'll think you're kind and noble!

Plant a seed, ponder the difference between
want and need?
Dust if you must, but if you're still young, there's not much time, with rivers to swim and mountains to climb......
Music to hear, and books to read,
friends to cherish, and life to lead!

Dust if you must, the world's out there with
the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair, a flutter of snow,
a shower of rain. This day will not come again!

Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will
come and it's not kind. And when you go......and you must........you, yourself will make more dust! *smiles*

For it's not what you gather, but what you scatter that tells what kind of life you have lived.
I want to leave some kind of legacy.
I haven't much money, but many beautiful memories
wrapped up with love in my poetry.

I gave up cleaning for Lent about 10 years ago and just never picked the nasty habit back up. I decided to be decorative instead of useful. I solved the problem by hiring a cleaning lady once a week!

Love,
Rita

There is no other person who posts on this site, who can make me smile and get up tight, your words are magic and have the way to keep this heart pumping everyday. @};-------- a rose I offer you, to keep this old nasty heart and mind, alive and thinking all the time.

Ashes to ashes..dust to dust......my cleaning lady made off last August....so here I sit, knee deep in my mire, reading your words that I do so admire.

Thank you so very much for sharing this.

Chris

What a message - and you handle it with lighthearted grace. I agree with this - thought i must admit to not being able to completely over the guilt if I don't have it done.

nice job!

This is great. I hate dusting and house cleaning in general. I would rather be out exploring this great world of ours. Thanks for the reminder to stop and smell the roses and not the dust.
