The latest meeting held…dignitaries from afar,
To ‘discuss’ the greatest pandemic of all time.
Red carpets…glitz and glam…a ‘Hollywood’ style opening,
As the millions afflicted…continue to die meantime.

Twenty five million dead the horrendous tally soars,
Tenfold more…with the illness look to the meeting for hope.
Amid all the debate…the thrust and parry and diatribe,
Abstinence…it is tendered…the only way man can cope.

Those afflicted stand in shock and disbelief,
Sure…abstinence would rapidly curb the spread of the disease.
Yet what of the millions dying and suffering?
Seems the meeting overlooked their impassioned pleas!

Already counted among the dead…lest so it seems,
Abandoned…let the disease run its wretched course.
With abstinence at least there will be no new victims,
They tender coldly…without a shred of remorse.

This suggestion is ludicrous…a ‘band-aid’ approach,
Callously treating a symptom…and ignoring the cause.
Those now dying are left without a morsel of hope,
The pandemic will go on mercilessly without pause.

Where is the resolution…a world wide united effort?
Massive injections of funds to find a medical cure?
Where is the compassion and sympathy and understanding?
Initiatives of worth…for the sufferers to reassure?

We spend trillions taking a few photos of Saturn,
Yet for AIDS research…money is difficult to find.
Priorities are simply absurd…we tend to overlook the fact,
That this disease has the potential to eradicate all mankind!
