in every single way.
It wasn't enough for my mother's mother
to be your bed warmer and your slave.

You try to put me down,
by calling me a black,
or by calling me a *****.
You even put them both together,
just to make them stick.

You try to put me down,
by giving me the job,
when you know full well,
black men are men,
and, I have been nothing
from the start.

I guess there is no fear,
of my retaliation,
when you mistreat me at work,
Your plan has been successful,
our economy is short.

You try to put me down,
by saying I have an attitude.
Of course I won't ever get a husband.
Now, this is so untrue.
Just maybe if you stop putting me down,
just maybe he wouldn't feel he has to.

You try to put me down,
by not lifting me in the media.
Wait, there's one-almost white.
Look how much the times have changed.
We need to change these lies.

I will never be the kind of woman,
everybody wishes me to be.
Since my skin, hair, and body,
will always separate me.

You know, as I do,
you're putting me down for spite.
Your ignorant words and tired actions,
only keeps the image of my race alive.

I've had enough of your put downs,
your trying to make me what I'm not.
You can either love me, hate me,
accept me, or reject me
but, leave me to my lot. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 169 [topic] => 19 [informant] => Montra [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => InspirationalPoems )

Very good write.
Racism & sexism goes all ways.
I know quite a few people of all races who go everywhere thinking that people hate them simply for their skin. I am a lover of all, and think that if you are angry at the world, it will be angry at you, no matter what your skin color...

This is a very good stand against those who do discriminate, and may they get the message.
