Broken Intentions

An I like you call when hes already taken
A lonely walk when all you wanna do is cry
A perfectionist that hates to be mistaken
A broken wing when youre ready to fly
And now it seems that all these things that Ive hoped for
Are nothing more than dreams made of glass
And while the bad boys are waiting in the foreground,
Im a good girl still fighting her past
And Im broken before Ive even fallen.
Yeah, Im broken and I cant look back
And my intentions are not to be forgotten,
But my broken soul is now left to crack
A nervous laugh when things arent that funny
A guitar that youll never learn to play
A summer spent in jeans though its hot and sunny
And a useless map when youve lost your way
Just when I thought things might get better
You unintentionally broke my heart
And although youre intentions may seem quite common
Youre a good boy whos made me fall apart
And Im broken before Ive even fallen.
Yeah, Im broken and I cant look back
And my intentions are not to be forgotten,
But my broken soul is now left to crack
The courage it takes to break your spirit
A lonely man lost in the midst of friends
A song you know with words you cant remember
And the final wave when youd hoped itd never end
And now you can sit and watch me pick up my pieces
Even though you thought you justified it all
Its a long, long trip to the other side of heaven
And I thought I knew till I made that call
And Im broken before Ive even fallen.
Yeah, Im broken and I cant look back
And my intentions are not to be forgotten,
But my broken soul is now left to crack
Thanks for the news, I thought you ought to know
How much it hurts to find you have nowhere to go
And my intentions may seem well planned
But now Im nothing more than just slipping sand
And Im broken before Ive even fallen.

I only know bits and pieces of Free Fallin', and I know as much about Alanis Morisette as I know Latin (which is to say, nothing at all), so I couldn't really put the verses to anything other than how they seemed to come in my head.
But despite all that, this is a great poem. Probably one of the best I've read on here. |
