Doing their best
To uphold the promises
To paymaster West

The Iraqis know
Their government’s a fake
But most will play along
Their time they will take

To get the Americans out
That is their goal
Then they can start living
Heart and soul

The occupiers right now
Are a necessary evil
No love is lost
On the Western devil

The dollars are needed
To repair their land
Devastated by sanctions,
War and Saddam

But so many have died
In their ruined towns
So much revenge
To be passed around

No love is lost
For those who came
Who killed on a lie
And invaded in shame

To devastate and kill
In shock and awe
An occupying force
So arrogant and raw

No meeting of minds
Is possible where
That lofty arrogance
Meets an angry despair

No cultural exchange
Can ever be
When occupying force
Deals in misery

Herding people
Like cattle or sheep
Screaming demands
Making men creep

Around their houses
On bended knee
Think how it would feel
To you and me

Oh yes, there are excuses
For an arrogance there
Reasons for abuse
For bringing despair

But look for no love
Of your aggressive men
As the Iraqis assert
Their rights and then

Tell you to leave
Unwanted from there
Despised as infidels
Who stand and stare

Recognise you’re not wanted
And seen as low grade
Realise the reality
Of Abu Ghraib

Know they’ll keep you
For a few short years
To repair what you cost them
In pain, death and fears

Don't look for happy faces
Except when you leave
Look only for the exit
And the sigh they will heave [comments] => 3 [counter] => 173 [topic] => 41 [informant] => steeleyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => political )

"Who killed on a lie
And invaded in shame"

Succinct. Keep writing, Steel.
