You watched the people below
You thought of the things going through their heads
Of how so many would never know
Of a girl who tried her very best
But couldn’t take it anymore
Of one who was truly blessed
But finally gave up
And knocked on death’s front door

You slipped the rope around your neck
You cleared your mind of all
You took a deep breath and took a step
Unsure of whether you’d really fall
You placed it firmly upon the solid air
That supported the clouds all around
And with broken wings, you did drop
Until your legs dangled above the cold, hard ground

You heard the gasps let out
You watched the faces deform
You slowly floated back up
As they continued to stare at your lifeless form
But soon you were focussed on only one thing
That bright light that lay before you now
And the silent voices that you could hear sing
Welcoming you to the new life that lie before you now

And though you were gone
Living in your well deserved after-life
You were never forgotten
Remembered by every husband, son, daughter, and wife
Everyone could feel your presence left in the place
They knew you were watching from somewhere
They all could still see your face
In the reflection of the little black plaque placed there

And as your smile reined down
From heaven above
There was not a single frown
And only memories filled with love
Of a girl who was beautiful and smart
And knew better than most
What it was like to be a part
One of the few who could boast
That they’d seen the good, the bad,
And then the very worst at it’s very most
And they never thought any less
Of the girl who knocked on death’s back door
And became one of the few god would truly bless
And live in happiness evermore

It made me cry because I can related to this so well. About a year ago a friend of mine hung herself in a forest. We found her only because I remembered she use to go out there and think a lot of the time. Sure enough we went out there and there was a note in the car asking for forgiveness from her family, friends and her fiance and that she just couldn't go on anymore. She was badly into drugs and didn't see any other way out. Great poem but very sad.
