Yet I remember the time spent
As it if were yesterday
And how I remember the way
That we laughed our way along
Beale Street, with stories long

Memphis memories call to me
Singing a song of its history

The years have passed , ‘tis true
But I have not forgotten you
You are my yesterday
Oh! I recall each thing you say
As we stroll our way through life
Whether we’re sharing joy or strife

Memphis memories call to me
Singing a song of the history

Years, too many, have gone by
I know now the reason why
This memory of yesterday
Remains so sweet to me today
It is because of you, old friend
Knowing you’re with me to the end

Memphis memories call to me
Singing a song of our history

Five full years since we toasted to
Recollections of me and you
Recalling our yesterday
Setting aside some time that day
To pay tribute to our friendship tight
Honoring the past as I do tonight

Memphis memories call to me
Singing our song, our history

"To pay tribute to our friendship tight
Honoring the past as I do tonight"

This part sticks out as being off-hand, of sorts. Although its not really bad in any way, it doesn't really work as well as the rest of the piece.

I'd change this to;

"To pay a tribute to our fine friendship
in honouring past's companionship"

That isn't exactly brilliant, but I feel it may be a slight improvement on the flow. My opinion, however, is merely my opinion.

Hope this helps . . .

I agree, very well written and simply beautiful.

"To pay tribute to our friendship tight
Honoring the past as I do tonight"

Those just happen to be my favourite lines. Very well done on this one.

Take Care

Ah, what a nice dedication. I've been to good ol' Memphis too. Got kind of a scary twist though....maybe I can tell you sometime. Guess no city is perfect. :0 I so much want to read more of your wonderful poetry tonight but right now the strom outside is calling to me and saying "remember this afternoon?" ;-} Grrrr...don't want to sign off but I will be back to visit your awesome pages.

Sigh.... instantly accessible, plain and simple wording and metre, nostagia in all its bittersweet finery. It called up my own similar recollections, like all good poetry does.

(yes, I'm waay back in your temporal stalls, but I can still see the now-you in the then-friend).
