This isn’t something that I’m known to do
Not in this kind of situation anyway
But then again, I’ve never been in this kind of situation

My feelings should have been kept inside but they weren’t
My stomach felt what my heart was feeling at that time
Breathless and in knots, that’s all that was there
Even though I tried my hardest to push it all to the back of my mind
Then, for some reason I spilled
I told him just about everything that I felt and thought

Yes I went out on a limb, yet once again
I tried to calm myself down but still couldn’t breathe
Short of breath, never feeling that way before
Kinda scared, but not really sure
I couldn’t help but to feel anything besides negativity
Doubt, concern, scared, and most of all extremely nervous
It became completely peculiar to me

He tried to calm my nerves
He said he felt the same, but wouldn’t tell me previously
For the same reasons that I had for waiting to tell him
Should I believe him?
I know I shouldn’t but for some reason I am
But why?

I’ve been burnt before
I don’t want to loose a such great friend
Yet, I might be passing up an opportunity
An opportunity to gain a great life companion
I don’t know what I should do

Letting my guard down is hard for me to do
Allowing my heart to run free is also difficult
But somehow it’s slipping away from me
I don’t know how he managed to get it to, but he did

Being burnt before, petrified to believe in my feelings

In this situation…. never before
Only time will tell if I’m doing the right thing

don't worry about what's happened in the past. if you expect or fear the past repeating itself, it most likely will. so forget about being burned and just go with it. the dude said he felt the same right? so what's the problem? if he says what he means and means what he says, then it's all good, and if not then he wasn't even really a friend in the first place now was he, so you're not really losing anything. let yourself be happy.

I have to agree with herbleaf23. I think he put it very well.

I would just like to add, though, that nothing will happen if you pass up all the oppertunities. ;)

Follow what your heart is telling you, a true friend wouldn't lie, but if you are still scared then just take it slow. You don't have to rush in head over heels. This was a good write!
