torn britches, scraped knees, and a pretty party dress.
Building blocks, and choo-choo trains,
running outdoors in warm summer rains.

Mommy's treasure and daddy's little pet,
the precious special someone no one can forget.
Teddy bears, cuddly dolls to hold,
snow suits , caps and gloves...when the weather's cold.

Little dances, laughter from spinning in dizzy swirls,
little boys poking fun at pretty little girls.
Building tunnels and frogs in blue jean pockets,
mommy's picture in a tiny golden locket.

Dandelion blossoms in a Mother's small vase,
given with the look of love on a tiny face.
All these things a child does share,
with Mother's and Father's everywhere.

Tears of fright on a stormy night,
kisses that let you know...they'll be alright.
Ice cream cones that melt so fast,
and you wishing the moment could forever last.

Oh yes...a child is all these things and more,
they enter your heart like the view from a distant shore,
loving and giving, expecting the same,
we all know the child...by it's own special name.
