For every scar on her heart
there was a matching one on her arm
for every time he's hurt her
every time he did her harm
he'd beat her up and bruise her
make her think she'd done wrong
she couldn't wear what she wanted to
couldn't sing her favorite songs
she'd get home and cry all night
and stay up nursing wounds
but the worst beating she ever had
came when she found the baby in her womb
now she's gone, we tried to help
she could never run too far
now she's dead and down in the ground
her poor body covered in scars
