over heard a mother say.
"This world in which we live,
for better, my left hand I'd give."

"I have to pay the rates and bills,
hubby works to buy the frills."
Her friend sat in muted awe
not knowing what this poet saw.

Look into her child's eyes,
listen to its greedy cries.
For ice cream, sugar and of spice,
then take yourself to another life.

Take yourself to another place
where you see nothing in a child's face.
They may pack an AK 47
and a packet of smokes is their heaven.

They've seen rape and murder and suicide
partook in racial genocide.
Lost friends to weapons of destruction.
What a ceremony for adult induction.

Look deeply now into their eyes
see dark and blood let suicide.
See the cancer that we have spread
to be erased by the decayed dead.

Life means nothing and food so much
forgotten is their mother's touch.
Their only hope, a clean death
and they will kill for one more breath.

Listen closely for their cries
they are muffled by the political lies.
And the companies who make their cash
as these children through life, shoot and slash.

Yes now who is right and who is wrong
while you sing of God, WHO SINGS THEIR SONG?
No one knows or no one cares
let us forget these children's nightmares!

You go down to that park
where this poet heard that remark.
And sing a song of love and hope
and help another through life to cope.

Let's forget the nightmares of shame
LET US WRITE TO BRING FORTUNE AND FAME!
Forget the slaughter and the genocide
as through this decadent life we glide.

Yes you the poets, the ones who see
all there is in you and me.
But let's turn off the TV set
as it shows us of the blood they let.

Help me please! Oh merciful God,
to give a smile to child of God!
Not one that laps up sugar and spice
but one that would die to live a child's life.

Bulls-eye, right straight to my heart. You win, big guy!!!!!!! Magnificent piece of work. I hear and feel the words, deeply. I have worked with children like this. If they live, the scars never heal. Their lives might as well be over.

Seeing kids in that situation is so bloody heartbreaking it's amazing what some children have to grow up with and accept as the norm., you hit the nail on the head with this one twink.

Yes indeed, beautiful poem! It sometimes takes a harsh vivid picture to make people realize how lucky we actually are to be living in a place like this....And that last verse said everything perfectly...How very well said.Kudos to you on a truthful-beautifully written write.

I agree with you, yet not all famous people are like that stanza 11 lines 1 and 2 some help out as much as they can. I won't say who because the majority of famous people are selfish.

Oh..what a magnificent write..a great
picture of life...you have a golden heart
to write such a poem..
"Life means nothing and food so much
forgotten is their mother's touch.
Their only hope, a clean death
and they will kill for one more breath"..

I am not able express more..venkat
