Array ( [sid] => 41000 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => growing up being different [time] => 2004-03-30 15:37:17 [hometext] => I always feel like i am so much more mature than everone my age and that everyone just cares about sex and drinking.... and because of this i am afraid to tell anyone how i really feel or things that interest me because thats taboo [bodytext] => I grew up long ago, in a world that wasnt real
I grew up in a perfect world, so very far from here
I took a different mindstate, I lead a different life
Now I sit among you and wonder if Im right
I do not conform to standards, but yet I sometimes try
I struggle very dearly to find out what we mean by life
i question your authenticy because you all have shown,
no matter what you say and do that doesnt your always true
Now I feel I must repress my thoughts and feelings towards you all, because you have grown up in a world that isnt perfect at all [comments] => 11 [counter] => 246 [topic] => 21 [informant] => JennyFruFru [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 5 [ratings] => 1 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Lifepoems )

I can relate... I really can... growing up and being different... when I was growing up things were just starting that downward spirl into the seedy side of life... maybe it was because I'm from a small town... but still sex, drinking, drugs... they were all there for the choosing... it's was just the fact... if u wanted to choose them or not... and I chose not too!
It was taboo to talk about those things too when I was growing up,(Ithink it always will be) but I didn't repress it... if those ppl didn't want to hear about it they didn't have to hang around me...
I hope things work out for you...
This is a nice write... a way to get those feelings out... and add to ur character too
Keep writing no matter what...
~Donna~

Finally someone to relate to my own predicament... though both of us differ perhaps in our take on things. I too have this problem of "maturing" beyond my peers.. though mine was a bit of a choice. I craved knowledge so I pursued it, with it comes power and sadly philosophies and maturity.. my friends grew up naturally and had fun while I sedately have to bow down to rules, regulation, faith, and social writs. Knowing means following. I fit in well in almost all situations for one advantage of knowledge is the ability to conform to situations but I never feel belonging for I am always pretending... calculating and processing. I do the right things and say the right words... mature it seems... philosophical in life my views are sometimes wise... but at the very heavy cost of standing outside of my friends circle for I knew things they happily don't. People who I meet always think I was older than my twenty seven years by my conversation...it is hard to dumb down sometimes just to fit in... to do crazy things just because friends are having their fun. To be the only one to vote for the government because others just like to rebel without being an informed voter. Rebel for a cause but please not on a teenage whim expecially not if you are on government scholarship. To always be the designated driver because you know better than to drink or drug and drive. A pain it is but a choice it is.

Anyway.. great powerful write and very nice topic.. just different takes on this topic we have I think.

If being different means you don't follow the mindset of the mindless herds walking around lost then 'good for you'. Follow always what it in your heart. Being different and being strong in your own convictions is a good thing, no something to be ashamed of. When they are all regretting later in life some of the things they did you will be remembering happy free times not being chained to a bunch of mindless sheep just playing follow the leader.

Yes! Wherever you are, whatever you do, always be true to yourself, to what you know, deep inside your heart, is true.
Keep writting!
Take care.
