Mars Red is a colour from the fifth century
When wars were fought between Greece and Persia
It is the colour of city-states
Which means it is the colour of pride and self-confidence
The colour of applause
A colour that will bring down the house.

Mars Red puts itself on a pedestal
Beating its own drum and blowing its own trumpet
It teases and torments with persistent attacks
Hauling off on one
Landing a haymaker
Giving both barrels
Ripping up one side and down the other
Mars Red is Tong warfare.

Mars Red is an alley cat
With ice-water in his veins
And lead balls for eyes.

Mars Red is the science and study of projectile motion
It is a detonator
Pushing the button with a butterfly kiss
Giving skull
Perverse and decadent.

The scopophiliac is Mars Red
Watching others disrobe
Rubbing up against them in crowded places.

Frottage
Paraphilia
Molestation and rape.

Mars Red is an agent provocateur avec décolletage
And just between you and me
It is also Hegar’s sign
The colour of the seventh week of gestation.
Of heat in uteri.

Both birth and warfare understand and contain Mars Red.

Curious, indeed - but highly informative. I've been completely informed by this poem, on everything I think I would ever have wanted to know about Mars Red.
Very interesting and nicely written. Thanks.
