Words cut me to pieces like a boat swept onto rocks
The feelings I thought we both gave and shared
On your part merely an empty box

My open heart crashed against the steel of your resistance
As you steered your emotion to someone new
The sweetest smile I had surrendered to
Now serving as farewell, a gift of icy cool

For a moment I imagined it was purely a dream
That the dark clouds would be blown with the lightest breeze
Colours of the rainbow so clearly I saw in you
Fading into the grey of your unfeeling mood

You vowed to keep a friendship, as people often do
As we stood together, washed by unrelenting rain
To your lips I placed my finger, asked for no promise
In time I knew you would forget, like last weeks headline news

With one last kiss, I took my pride, together with my heart
A little heavier than before, though a piece of it remained
I watched you leave, saw the headlights fade, life carried you away
As the mist curtained down, alone on the stage, accepting, that you were not the one [comments] => 5 [counter] => 171 [topic] => 32 [informant] => puppy_dog_eyes [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 15 [ratings] => 3 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => SadPoetry )
