Array ( [sid] => 24385 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => TRAUMATIZED [time] => 2003-10-04 18:05:00 [hometext] => Left all alone at the Dentist, at the age of 4.....traumatized, I tried to run out the door! [bodytext] => After 60 years, I've eliminated the tears.
'Tis hilarious now, even with the horror & acrimony.
Looking back I pity the Dentist....poor man..
For him it wasn't funny!

Traumatized as a small child,
left alone when only four in the Dentist's chair.
No one explained, I was thinking, maybe like
going to the beauty shop to cut my hair?

My Mother left me to go to the grocery store.
The front and bottom tooth can't stay anymore!
Dentist is old, impatient with small tots!
I thought he was nice, I liked him lots!

My first question was asked,
"What are you going to do?"
No assistant, no witnesses,
He shoved me 'til he was through!

"You will see young lady!,
Now, stop asking what I'm doing.....
Maybe you think I'm fooling!"
I knew he wasn't fooling, he was tooling...

I could see red flags waving in front of my face.
He said, "Open your mouth, which tooth is it?"
I'm thinking, "You touch me,
and I'm going to throw a fit!"
Since the tooth was in the front,
Even with my mouth securely closed tight!
He grabbed his pullers and lodged them
around my front tooth, and then yanked!

Blood was spurting, I was hurting,
He was cursing, as he grabbed me by both
shoulders and literally threw me
back into his seat!

As I descended, my right foot,
caught the tray that holds his instruments.
They were up-ended, as I was thrown down!
I watched them fly in different directions,
way high, and all around!

I'd never seen that much blood coming from ME!
It's one thing to be strangled by your mother.
But who is this guy?
He's really hurt me, I'm bleeding, His still cursing,
I'm leaving!

I took off, running for my life.
Midst pain, confusion and bloody strife!
The door was heavy,
I felt his arms steadily pulling me back!

I was hysterical, traumatized, could not
believe my 4 year old eyes!
Now a small child doesn't wonder
"What next?" They just want to escape,
this emotional rape!

Time, no time, everything is frozen in place!
What happened next only he can state,
I've buried it so deeply, even I can't relate!
Minutes, seconds, hours or just one?

My Mother's return was welcomed.
Yet she scorned!
"I suppose you threw a another fit as usual?"
All the way home I was confused & forelorn
I was once again convinced,
it was all my fault!

Then she said, "This wouldn't have happened
if you'd just kept your mouth shut!"
"I was trying to keep it closed, Mom,
but he got blood all over my clothes!"

No matter how hard I try, pray, think or drink
When I have to go to the Dentist......
If given a choice, I'd rather go down the brink!
My next poem will tell what happens
to me and my poor dentist!

amazing how adults forget what the world looks like to a child and the trauma that this causes

this tooth of mine
it hurts just so
but even that
won't make me go
tools from hell
the pain so intense
a demented doctor
none of it makes sense
the shakes and the shivers
the stomach ache blues
the sound of the drill
no one ever sues
past dentists don't allow me
any memory reprieve
i'll suffer in silence
without denstistry recieved
i've run in your shoes
both there and now
it hurts most days
i cannot go, myself won't allow!

Not a funny situation at all as a child but looking back but I suppose we can laugh..we have to ;).I only had to hear the drill if I was in the waiting room and I would give my mother the biggest workout trying to catch me as I ran down 4 flights of stairs to freedom lol..She'd drag me back up then afterwards buy me a jam donut becuase she felt bad *shakes head* lol..Bless her soul..Needless to say, those jam donuts assured me another visit .Thanks for sharing Connie.
((hugs))

Im so glad Im not the only one who hates the dentist still I dont like a thing about them,
teeth pulling or the drill. I to had an experience
with a bad dentsit man and I screamed and threw a fit because he didn't understand.
So now each time I hear the word dentist
I almost go into a panic attack at 34 its not
that amusing but confidence in them I lack.

This is terrible, adults dont realize sometimes how tramatic these things to children really are!!

my old dentist was supposed to be a kid dentist
if that was true Id hate to see what he did to the adults lol mean b word!!

You have built suspense..I must see what follows.....
--------------------------------------------------------
The are certain pros that should be shot
For their indifference to our lot,
A dentist's one who leads the group
That I would like to hand the poop.
