lingers on.
With each moment
that passes,
my hope is gone.
It reaches out to me,
in the dead of the night,
trying to take my life
with hands as cold as death.
With each day,
those hands tighten
around my heart,
squeezing it,
crushing the love
from it.
Each night I plead,
wanting the hands
to end it,
to give me only one moment
of peace.
But it mocks me,
and forever follows,
consuming me and everything
that I know.
As it consumes me,
I don't think
I can challenge it.
It's just too strong...
I cannot begin
to fathom it's power.
So I let the pain
linger on.
Waiting, day after day,
for one of two events
to happen.
I will either defeat it,
or die from it.
Whichever event
comes to pass,
I accept it wholeheartedly.
Even now, I can see
a light in the distance.
Waiting for dawn to break,
for another day
of torture to begin,
I somehow feel
at peace.
Perhaps my fate
is changing.
Perhaps it is time
for me to fight back.
I attempt to break free
of the bonds
that hold me,
a set of ghastly
eyes mock me,
torment me.
But still I struggle on,
knowing that I had to.
At last!
I'm free!
I turn to those mocking eyes,
which are now frightened,
and unleash all my fury.
The battle is being fought,
inside of me.
This wave of emotion
washes over me,
as I realize that
a victory is within me.
I banish the sadness from me...
and awaken
from that troubling dream,
only to find
that it wasn't a dream... [comments] => 4 [counter] => 172 [topic] => 13 [informant] => MrWrite [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => DarkPoetry )
