I found you dead this morning
I breathed the fresh cool air
while your nest was eerily silent
your body a dark stain on the earth

I walked away and left you there
your life had flown, your chics will not
now I hear them calling out for you
I shed an overdue tear.

goodbye little blackbird, natures cruel
and im unkind I'll wait until
your chics stop chirping and
forget you ever had a life.

Oooohh :(((((( I will never forget the day my kids and I found a nest sprawled on our lawn with three little baby birds almost dead - we think our dog may have found the nest. :(((( There was nothing we could do ... we cried as we watched their little hearts beating, but they died soon afterwards ... and it was worse to hear the mother bird come later calling for her babies ... yes, nature is cruel.... good write ...
